Our Background
The Mental Health and Resilience Foundation, The Sophie Clarke Foundation and Wilfrid’s House
The andResilience proposition and its charity body, The Mental Health and Resilience Foundation, have been developed by The Sophie Clarke Foundation, working closely with Wilfrid’s House.
The Sophie Clarke Foundation was founded in early 2021 by Sophie’s family following the loss of their daughter and sister to suicide in October 2020. With an objective of supporting mental health charities and promoting mental health awareness, as part of its activities, TSCF has funded various mental health programmes for schools delivered by Wilfrid’s House, a mental health therapy charity.
Through this work it became apparent that schools and individuals were looking for and needing a much more proactive whole school approach to tackling and preventing mental health problems, focused around building life skills rather than just giving more therapy. Taking on this challenge and working with a wide range of mental health professionals, schools and businesses, led us to establish The Mental Health and Resilience Foundation and over the course of 2023 and 2024 the andResilience proposition was developed, its primary focus being to encourage schools and businesses to take a more proactive and positive approach to reducing the frequency and severity of Mental Health Problems.
Our Aims, Vision and Mission
The Aims: To advance the provision of mental health support in the UK for the public benefit by:
- Promoting the integration of Resilience into the Mental Health and Wellbeing narrative and mindset in schools and businesses
- Promoting and Sharing Resilience Best Practice
The Vision: To halve the number of people who suffer with Mental Health problems each year through the adoption of andResilience in schools and businesses nationally.
The Mission: To champion the regular and consistent use of “Mental Health and Resilience” and “Wellbeing and Resilience” instead of just using the phrases “Mental Health” and “Wellbeing”. This is in order to change the way “Mental Health” and “Wellbeing” challenges and strategies are considered, discussed and addressed, in organisations and by individuals and by public bodies, such that building resilience and developing coping strategies becomes an integral part of everyone’s daily lives.
The origins and rationale that underpins the andResilience proposition can be found in the following one and ten page summaries, derived from the original andResilience research Paper. For more information do get in contact.
