Taking the time to identify all the people, objects, activities and events that make you happy can make it easier for you to regularly engage in happiness-inducing activities and be more aware of the control you have over your own happiness.

This is a great activity to do alone or with children.

Start by writing a list of all the things that make you happy. Consider what it is about those activities, objects or people that bring you so much joy.

Next, you can start creating a happiness portfolio. This can be a scrapbook which you fill with items that remind you of happy times, such as photographs of happy memories, a keyring from a loved one, a shell from the beach where you went on holiday etc.

Whenever you feel down or upset, you can turn to the happiness portfolio to give you a boost by looking through it and reminding yourself of all the people and things that make them happy.

This can help you to work through low moods and return to previous levels of wellbeing a little quicker.

If you are experiencing a particularly difficult time, carrying a small item round with you from your happiness portfolio can help. You can squeeze it in your pocket whenever they need a little boost.
