From The Royal Voluntary Service

Engaging in some form of community service can help to boost many aspects of mental health and wellbeing whilst also helping individuals to develop qualities that can lead to increased resilience, such as compassion, empathy, patience, and perseverance.

It can also help teachers and students to feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves and give them a sense of purpose. Look for opportunities for members of the school community to volunteer within their community, such as at a local food bank, animal shelter, charity shop or church.

People often find volunteering an inspiring experience where they get to meet people they wouldn’t normally encounter and hear real life stories of how these people have overcome adversity which can be extremely inspiring and humbling.

Volunteers often report a sense of pride at being able to give something back to these inspiring people and charities, whilst building the self-esteem, confidence and resilience of the person volunteering.
